The idea for Sotto came from a problem I kept running into myself.
I'd have an idea during a walk, remember a book recommendation from a friend, learn something important, or want to save a thought for later. I'd tell myself I'd write it down eventually, and then I'd forget. The moment was gone.
Most note-taking and journaling apps require you to stop what you're doing and type. That small amount of friction is often enough to lose the thought entirely. I realized I naturally think out loud much more than I write, so I started wondering why memory capture still feels like a typing problem.
That's what led me to build Sotto.
Sotto is a private voice-first memory app. Instead of typing, you simply speak. The app transcribes your words, organizes them into searchable memories, and helps build a personal archive of thoughts, experiences, lessons, ideas, and moments worth remembering.
Privacy was a core requirement from day one. Users can choose between cloud transcription using Zero Data Retention processing or fully offline on-device transcription. Memories are stored locally in an encrypted database, with no ads, tracking, or data selling.
One unexpected challenge during development was balancing AI convenience with user privacy. Most apps push everything to the cloud. I wanted users to have a genuine choice between maximum accuracy and maximum privacy.
The goal isn't journaling.
The goal is simple: help people remember the things they don't want to forget.
Sotto is currently in early release on Google Play and I'm actively looking for feedback from early users.
